Do you have any "requirements" for honors/AP classes?

Just wondering. My school has a system of:

To get into Honors Course:
93 in Regular
90 in Honors

To get into Physics:
90 in Bio
85 in Chem

To get into AP:
over a 90 in all courses in that subject (ie, english, history)

and you need a reccomendation too

any other crazy systems?

AP Bio: Chemistry, Advanced Bio, and Reg. Bio
AP Chem: Chem 1
Honors Physics: Physics I
AP Euro: World History 1 or 2
APUSH: B average
AP Stats: 4 years of math
AP Calc: 4 years of math + pre-calc
AP French: 4 years of previous study
AP Spanish: same

Don't know how this is comparatively....my AP Euro teacher also wants a GPA pre-requisite on his classes. Even on regular classes. APs really are an elitist, exclusive thing at my school. He's so dumb.

Wow, that's fantastic...I wish we had things like that for AP courses, it would keep all of the stupid kids out.

Our only "requirements" are for AP sciences...you need to take one year of chem (either honors or regular) to get into AP, same for bio, same for physics. It's silly.

Depends on the subject/course....to get into Honors Geometry, generally they like a B+ in Advanced Algebra, but As in Intermediate Algebra can get in, too. So on with Honors Pre-Cal and AP Calculus...though you have to take Honors Pre-Cal to take BC and you can go from Pre-Cal to AB.

AP Euro Hist is by recommendation, you don't have to to take APUSH to get recommended.
You can skip level 4 of Spanish or French to go to AP level 5 if you've studied the language for a long time and learn grammatical concepts easily.
I have a friend who might take AP Studio Art next year without taking Art 3 because of her talent.

APs are really just recommendation and talent at my school, grades have very little to do with it.

You need at least a B in the prereqs/subject area, and for your teacher to reccomend you.

But, basically people only do APs if one of their parents has a PhD in something, since it's an independant study school.

All honors/AP classes in my school are "special permission" courses.

Any honors/AP English - teacher rec, writing sample written in class, high 80's/low 90's average in all past years of English; AP English requires PSAT/SAT scores
Honors math - teacher rec, 95 average in the previous class
AP Calc - qualifying test, teacher rec, psat/sat math score, 90-something average in math in all 4 years
AP History - teacher rec, over 90 average in both English and History for past years
AP Stats - teacher rec, good math grades (B+ and higher)
AP Science - no prereqs, just A- and higher science grades; Physics C requires at least a 60/600 on PSAT/SAT
AP/Honors Language - 93 average in the past language courses, teacher rec
AP Art Studio - art sample
AP Art History - no clue

Teachers can make their standards higher/lower depending on how strong the people who apply are. Everyone wants to be in AP Micro so the teacher looks at geometry grades and other random crap to filter people out.

Ya, you have to fit a whole bunch of requirements and get a recommendation.
I don't know all the requirements off the top of my head, probably like an A in the class in a honors class to get in.

The only requirement is to get a teacher signature. However, I could just get one of my parents to talk with the guidance counselor and I could get in to almost any class. Obviously there are limits. You wouldn't want to jump from Algebra 1 to AP Calc lol.
