Do you have to apply to honors programs?

Do you have to apply to honors programs when your originally applying to the school itself (U-M and Berkeley specifically)? Is this something that they give to you? What is the benefit of the honors program?

for Michigan you're automatically considered if you're in LSA based on your application. Benefits: smaller classes, which is a huge plus at a huge uni like UMich. Um, maybe someone else more acquanted with it can give you some more details :p

Based on the three my daughter was accepted for without applying or even knowing about, the schools just inform you that based upon their criteria, you have been admitted to their honor program or honors college.

Depends upon the school. some honors programs involve special application procedures, particularly if there is merit aid money involved. If you look at a school's website and get info on their honors program, they will usually let you know what is required in terms of special application procedures or earlier deadlines than regular admission deadlines.

At UC Irvine you do not have to apply separately. If you are good enough they'll offer it.

University of Washington requires separate admissions application.
