Do you have to be a Christian to apply and attend a Christian university/college?

Im a Catholic. Can i go to a christian university?

The answer depends largely on what you consider to be a “Christian” University (Baylor? Pepperdine? Bob Jones?) and specifically which one(s) you are interested in attending. Check out admissions policies and/or student handbooks online for schools that interest you.

If you have a list of schools it would be easier for someone to help. Your question, as it is, is too broad.

The school I go to, Concordia University Irvine in Southern California welcomes anyone of any denomination or religious background. You are required to take 3 theology classes, 2 of them are the history of Old and History of the New Testament, so they are the history behind each book. Chapel is also a choice and welcomes any and all who want to attend. Concordia would be a great fit for you!

Catholics are Christians. However, some Christian schools don’t see things that way.

Most schools don’t have restrictions requiring you be a member of their faith denomination, but some schools have strict religion class requirements and may also require attendance at worship services. Some schools welcome questions, other require strict adherence to religious teachings.

As noted above, a list would make this question easier to answer.

We looked at some Christian schools, and they do vary. You may not feel comfortable at some schools because of the requirements to participate in their services. Others won’t be a problem at all. Of course, you could also look at Catholic schools.

“Christian University” is a very loose term. Many schools describe themselves as Christian - [Demnomination], but are basically secular schools indistuishable in atmosphere from a public secular university. For example, a lot of the Jesuit Catholic schools, are basically religious in name only…you might as well apply to secular schools as well and broaden your options.

Some schools like Wheaton College in Illinois, Notre Dame to an extent, BYU, Thomas Aquinas (CA) still adhere to their founding religious heritage strongly.

Many secular schools, including public universities, will have active Christian groups and ministries you can get involved in.
