<p>Simply put – yes.</p>
<p>The industry is tough, and if you haven’t done an internship it’s look upon in one of two ways:</p>
<p>(1) You couldn’t get an internship (which is bad)
(2) You didn’t know you wanted to work in this industry (which can be equally bad)</p>
<p>In this economy, yes. This year, most banks (BBs at least) are hiring mostly all of their full time class from their summer analyst class. The spots for non-SAs are going to be extremely hard to get and you’ll probably need some other finance/banking related internship to even get noticed.</p>
<p>Ya, I think most people that get hired into banking jobs out of college did an internship somewhere in at least a banking-like internship.</p>
<p>A nice alternative though is consulting–and most people that go into that full time haven’t done it before. It’s a great option people who aren’t totally sure of what they want to do.</p>
