Do you have to retake failed courses in order to graduate?

I’m supposed to be graduating this year but have to “Failed to Attend” grades that the teachers have refused to change even when I showed them my doctors note. I’m now worried because I don’t have enough aid to take those two classes and it is wasted time.

Are there any more options? Is there a such thing as “Course Substitution”?

Do you need those courses for graduation? If they are required major courses or were taken to fulfill some other requirement, then yes, you need to pass them in order to graduate. You can usually take the course again in order to get credit for the class (if you pass). Some schools will allow you to replace the failed grade in your GPA, others won’t. Regardless though, you would at least get credit for the class if you take it again and pass.

If these courses aren’t required, then you can still graduate even though you failed them, provided you meet all of the requirements for graduation (fulfilled major and GE requirements and meet the minimum number of units to graduate).

That being said, you should probably talk to your advisor about this because your school’s policies are what really matter.
