Do you have to send AP reports with apps?

When applying for admission to college, are we required to send our AP score report as well? For instance, say I take AP Calc AB and get a 3, retake, and get a 5 next year (sophomore and junior years respectively), and I only report the 5 on my app, not the 3.

Is that acceptable? Or will they take an AP report later on (when discussing college credits and placement), notice that there's a 3 and 5, and take action for only reporting the 5?

You are not required to provide any AP scores or reports on app. If you want college to know of any of them, report them in app or in essay or send a copy of your scores to admissions office to include in your file. Official AP scores are required only after being accepted to a college and you want credit for them.

Exception: some colleges, NYU is one, allow you to submit AP scores for admission in lieu of other scores such as SAT or SAT IIs, in which case if you choose that option you would need to submit official reports when you apply.
