I got a really low AP scores which are 2 in Eng and Govt, and 3 in Biology.
My counsellor tells me that I HAVE to send the scores regardless how bad they are because:
1. adcoms would find it weird if one applicant took an AP class but there is no AP grade received by them.
2. The AP classes needs to be proved that they were challenging courses in the school.

I don't really know if they are truth. Somebody plz help me out! I have to send my ED app to NYU like middle of next week!!!

when an ucla adcom came into our school, he said that they want to see people that challenge themselves. Taking an AP class is hard but taking the actual ap test is challenging yourself to another degree. yeah sure you might not have passed some but it's better than a person who just didn't take it at all. not seding the score means that they will automatically assume you didn't take the ap test - which the entire course preps for- at the end of your year. The adcom said :"we'd rather see someone with a 2 than a person without a score. not taking the test means you are obviously unprepared. but getting a two or 3 shows somewhat challenge you've taken.

I have a different response. My kids got into top ten schools ( a university, and a LAC) without sending their APs. They are NOT required. They did fine - all 4s and 5s - and sent them in after they got in, for placement purposes. They are just one extra item. If you have a weak application but high APs, send them in. If - like my kids - you had exceptionally strong applications, it doesn't matter. If you have weak APs, I wouldn't send them.

I interviewed for an Ivy for many, many years and many of the kids I interviewed got in without sending their APs. After all, you can't send your senior year APs since they haven't been issued when you are applying.

People will deny it, but honestly, I have way too much experience with top schools to think it is necessary. Your GC is wrong.

I think it depends on where you apply. I would not recommend sending poor scores, but would send good scores (>/+ 4) since these are the only scores that get college credit or placement.
