I am taking a BYU online course, and I don't really like it. I'm afraid I'll get a poor grade (B probably, although I have no idea) and I don't really want it affecting my college transcript. I already put it on my Common App and I've been accepted to a few places, so I don't think I can withdraw (I don't want to get rescinded). If I complete the course, do I have to send the transcript for my college GPA? I've already maxed out on AP credits, so I don't think they would give me credit anyway. The college in question is USC, if that helps... I would rather not send it in because I'm thinking about grad school, and I don't want it to hurt my GPA already.
Could I just tell the college I completed it, or find some way to not put it on my GPA? Thanks.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

You don’t have to ask to have credit at BYU transferred to USC. If you don’t, then it won’t be counted in your USC GPA (then again, it might not anyway depending on USC’s policy for transfer courses vis-a-vis calculating GPA).

But, if you ultimately choose to pursue a graduate degree, they’re going to ask you for transcripts from all colleges that you have attended, and you’ll need to get a transcript from BYU.

It’s only one online course, though…

When you apply for admission to a degree program at an accredited college or university in the US, you are obligated to provide official transcripts of all college-level coursework. Period.

What the receiving institution chooses to make of those records is entirely up to them.

This means that you have to send that transcript, but the college/university you end up attending might not give you any credit for the coursework. At most colleges and universities, the grades don’t transfer, just the credits.

And, yes, that transcript will follow you for the rest of your natural life, so don’t lose track of the information on how to order copies in the future.

Of course, if you do transfer the course to USC, then the coursework will be on that transcript and you’ll never have to ask for a BYU transcript. But it doesn’t change the fact that you own that course now.

^^^ Not quite so.

Yes, the course will show up on the transcript of a college or university that accepts the credits, but you will still have to provide an original BYU transcript as well. It is a big pain, I know. You may want to order up multiple sealed copies now, and just stash them in a filing cabinet until you need them.
