Do you have to take the ACT to get into colleges?

So, I’m graduating early (for personal reasons, I prefer not to disclose more) and I haven’t taken the ACT yet. Juniors are supposed to take it in the spring, but that’s long after college applications are due so I have to take it on my own time. Unfortunately, I have mandatory extracurricular events on EVERY ACT day before college apps are due. I’m in quite a bind with this and I’m not sure what to do.

Do colleges require both the SAT and the ACT? Or can I just submit my SAT score?

You need to check the website of each college you are planning to apply to.

I haven’t seen colleges that require both SAT and ACT. All the ones that I’ve looked at take one or the other. Unless one of the schools you’re applying to is weird, you’ll be fine with only the SAT.

Will it reflect poorly if I only submit one?

I can’t imagine it would. Submitting a good score on just one is plenty for even competitive colleges.

you can choose test optional colleges or choose to try the SAT.

Most colleges will be fine with just the SAT.

Any college is just fine with the SAT.

Also, I don’t know about any mandatory EC where you can’t be excused for the ACT/SAT.
Even Marching Band where they emphasize never missing, you can miss for ACT. Have your parents talk to the adult in charge only if you want to take the ACT…if you are happy with your SAT score then do not worry a bit.

You’re fine with the sat but you have time to retake it unless you’re satisfied with your score.
Check that the colleges you’re interested in don’t require subject tests, and run the NPC to make sure you apply to affordable colleges (typically 2 safeties, 3-5 matches, then as many reaches as you wish or can afford.)

All colleges take just the SAT, and some even require that. A few highly ranked schools want a couple of subject tests if you don’t take the ACT, though. But honestly, your odds of getting in if you are graduating early are lowered for those schools anyway.

@bopper I don’t know if you’re in marching band or not, but all the ACT dates are competition days or the practice days before competitions for me. I’d be fine with missing a short practice day, but usually on long ones we change parts of our show. Then of course I can’t miss actual competitions because that’s when I’m needed most.

You don’t need the ACT. Just the SAT, and for some colleges 2-3 subject tests.

no

I have been in Marching band and so has my daughter…if you feel you need to take the ACT then you talk to your band leader and say you are choosing a practice day over a competition but you have to take it.
