Do you have to use the same common app essay for all the colleges you apply to?

Hi everyone!
I have a question about the main common app essay: can you use different essays or different versions of an essay for each of the colleges you apply to? Say you wrote more than one college essay you really like or some of the topics just apply better to certain colleges. So aside from the separate supplements for each individual college, does the "main" common app essay, information etc have to be the same for each college?
Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, yes.

Once you send it off to a college, you can no longer edit it.

^I don’t think the OP is asking about changing their application AFTER it’s submitted, but rather if different versions with different essays be submitted to different schools. The answer to that is yes. Once you submit to one college, you can make alternate versions of the CA, including changing essays.

It looks like the limit through common app this year is 3 different versions of the essay. The help section of their website provides that information.

Could you please post the link regarding to this information? Thanks!

Search for application versions in the help section and you’ll find this:

I knew how to access a new application version on the old Common App, but can’t find the information on how to do this on the new Common App. Any ideas or help much appreciated!

Thanks! That was very helpful! And does anyone have any ideas about Spartanpotato’s question??

Thanks a lot, niceday!

@spartanpotato: Saving versions doesn’t seem to be the procedure with this new form. Based on the help section I quoted a couple days ago, you should submit, revise, submit somewhere else.

Thank you…
