Does anyone know whether you can you have your high school mail the official transcript and counselor reccomendation or MUST you use this self-reporting STARS system?

No idea what STARS is… My HS mailed everything.

I’m confused by this too. If our counselor is sending our transcripts, then what’s the point in self reporting?

i think the stars system is something new binghamton is using this year – http://www2.binghamton.edu/admissions/pdf/stars.pdf

i know in the past it sometimes took awhile for things to actually work their way into applicants’ files – i know applicants whose status checker showed them missing items weeks after they knew they were sent. maybe this is binghamton’s way to speed along the process? i would think it would be best to do what they say to do so you don’t risk having problems with a school mailed transcript not end up in the file in a timely manner, but i have no personal knowledge as to how things actually work in the admissions office (other than what’s on the website). talk to your guidance counselor, they may know more about it and be able to reassure you about how the process works.

Anyone get more info on this? I called Binghamton twice and got two different answers. One person said that you don’t have to use the STARs system to self report your transcript if your school sent an official transcript and a different person said that you must use the STARs system and that they are NOT using mailed transcripts for admissions decisions, only to confirm your STARs submission after you have been admitted.

Anyone else on this issue?

why do you think you will get a better answer here than by calling the school? at this point why would you trust something an anonymous poster would have to say?

have you spoken with your guidance counselor? if you are in-state, chances are you aren’t the only one at your school applying to binghamton.
