Do you know anyone who got rejected from UCR?

"Very well put Cardinal. What humors me the most about UCR is by and large the attitude of the students, at least the ones I know personally. For some reason they are under the impresion they are at a very prestigious school, on par with "UCLA" and "UCSB." I find this funny because sure UCLA is a top UC but UCSB? and no mention of Cal? I I think UCR students should be proud because they are at a University, its not a CSU and they earned their position. However it needs to be put into perspective, that perspective being that these days WHERE your degree comes from is sometimes more important as WHAT KIND of degree you have!"

Wow. I've never heard of such a thing. Are these people delusional or what?

there's not a lot of them but i notice these people are usually freshman deluding themselves into thnking they go to a premier school. Excuses such as "Riverside is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation" and my personal favorite "UCR's ranking is climbing higher and higher every year, soon it will catch up to UCLA" makes me laugh every time i hear it.

That's ****ing hilarious.

yeah, just one of the many reasons i must GET OUT after this year

Oh yeah, sometimes I forget you go there.

Hmmm, are their any pros about UCR?

$$$ money - both merit and financial aid are very generous
easy classes/grading... I literally went to 4 classes total my first quarter and somehow pulled of a 3.3 without studying...
People are generally chill and non competitive

other than that, NO.

Yeah, I heard about the easy grading and non-competitive atmosphere.

I wonder if its better in a way. Like go to UCR and dominate versus go to UCLA/Cal and just be another fish in a big pond so you can get into a bad ass grad school.

i think if you want to go to Law school or medical school, then UCR is not that bad of a choice because its all about GPA and it'd be a lot easier getting a higher GPA here than in CAL or another good school. However, my major is business where prestige is everything. Sadface. Also, there's literally nothing to do here other than gamble.

hahahaha that's ****ing hilarious, my homie there says he hosts like poker sessions almost every day. Ha, and you guys aren't that far from Morongos?

Just curious, why is business school admissions all that different from law or med school?

yeah, morongo is 30 minutes away.

Business school admissions is based on three things: work experience, GMAT score and GPA. Unless you're VERY VERY qualified, you won't get into any top MBA schools without at least 3-5 years of work experience. The admissions weigh work experience much more than the other two, you need to perform well and show that you can be an asset to the company. So basically most people go to prestigious undergrads to get a great job upon graduation and then apply to MBA programs.

Ahhh thats chillin. I wonder if going to UCR would also help if you want to go to grad school for English at like top programs.

If you're coming here and majoring in biology and expect to get an awesome GPA and go to med school.

you better twice.

i'm on-track. and i havn't had a class where the average was higher then sixty percent. so don't flatter yourself, thinkin' that you're gonna come here and regulate. my friend, valedictorian, decided to come to ucr, all cocky thinkin' that he's got a slot at the UCLA program, got taught, he's only an average student here.

are your friends as egotistic as you seem?
i dormed and no one in my hall ever compared ucr to ucla/cal/ucsb/ whatever.
rather we often joke about how cruddy our ranking in the uc system is.

our school is not bad.
we are supposed to have a law school. got delayed because of budget cuts.
we have half a med school, but are working extremely hard to get a full one.
we have an awesome science faculty. guy bertrand - google his ass.
one of our psych prof. was head of some crap at harvard.

our chanc. was the head of nasa scientist.
we do have a lot of things going for us.
so obviously we're on the right track onto being a better then okay school.

get your facts straight before heading to critising the univeristy.

ucr is #80 for a reason

"our school is not bad.

We are supposed to....this...we have half that... How in the world are these reinforcing statements which are provided to support your position that UCR is "not a bad school"?? You are making my case for me.

Oh and I googled Guy Betrand's "ASS" and I found his UCR webpage! wow you know you have made it when google refers you to your own webpage.

Your arguments are ridiculous, just because YOU know people who do not share the same sentiment about UCR as the people who I know does not prove that they do not exist. It would take an idiot to believe at any school that the student body reaches a consensus on any issue let alone the prestige of the school itself.

And if one of your professors was "head of some crap at Harvard" why did he leave? Was he looking for a beautiful city to live in...RIVERSIDE? Or was the pay more here in the UC system than it is at HARVARD? Or was it the prestige factor...at cocktail parties he always felt like he didn't fit in because he was a HARVARD professor and everyone else taught at UCR and Cal state San Bernardino. lol please

The bottom line is UCR is a good school but it is no where near being the best school, like I said before, its students should be proud to be at a UC, and heck to even be in college period. There is nothing wrong with being a UCR student, but the moment a UCR student wants to open their mouth and make an attempt to compare their school to UCLA or UCSB (which I still don't get) they are going to draw fire from me because its just not accurate.

I think the final point I want to make is this.. what alumni networking do you have when graduating UCR? If people call USC, Pepperdine and all of the Pomona college's regional, what kind of label would be apropos for UCR. I suppose if you plan on living in the Inland Empire your entire life...LA is going to recruit from UCLA/USC/Pepperdine.etc. San Diego is going to recruit from UCSD/SDSU/USD etc.. Unfortunately, I do believe this to be unfortunate, the job opportunities for a UCR grad IN MY OPINION!! (it is not expert, nor necessarily even accurate!) will be centralized within the Inland Empire and would limit a persons opportunities considerably.

you obviously need to work on your google skills.

One would wonder why Universities like Harvard, MIT, UCI and UCSD would invite such a professor to speak. Hm, I'm just as confused as you are.

http://chem.ucr.edu
Go look at our chem faculty, it's rare that you'll find one that didn't at one point or another attend an ivy league institution.

I'm done with you.

OMG! UCR has ONE, ONE 1 UNO ONE Professor who actually has some kind of connection to an ivy league! Contact US NEWS and World Report and everyone else because this calls for a revsion of school rankings! I think Yale owes UCR an apology because it apparently has been occupying UCR'S spot on the list of college rankings.

Howabout this... you have fun at UCR get your degree and hang it on your wall and be proud. You should be, you will be a college grad. But for some people mediocracy is unacceptable.

actually all the UC's in general have great professors from highly regarded schools. I've had professors that graduated from HYP etc... Good professors do not make a good school.

Wrong, you need to have a minimum GPA of 2.4 to be considered for admission. BUT it's not a guarantee that you'll get in with that GPA on any UC campus. For Cal State yes, 2.0 is the minimum and you're guaranteed to get in to at least 1 CSU but it might not be like your first choice like CSU Long Beach.

On the plus side u will have a high GPA. My cousin graduated from UCR with a Bio degree and is attending NYU Dental School right now.
