I was wondering if you guys heard of some of the universities that are extremely well-known in America.

Please tell me what country you guys are from, and how well known these universities are:

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
MIT
Stanford
Caltech
UCLA
UC Berkeley

Thank you!

P.S. No I am not basing my university choice after this, I am still a high school student...
Just curious... so don't rant about how prestige is a bad way to chose a university.

Before I actually looked into US universities I had never heard of Stanford, Caltech or Berkeley, and had only briefly heard of UCLA, MIT and Princeton through various American films/TV shows.

I’m from Hong Kong. Harvard, Yale, and UCLA are probably the most well-known in the public. Most people think UCLA is as prestigious as Harvard and Yale. This is probably because we have so many students who came back from UCLA.

Berkeley, Princeton, MIT and Stanford are more well-known in highly educated circles. Caltech is very rarely mentioned.

Being a CCer, you can’t suspect what my answer is going to be
I live in New Zealand, here, Harvard, Yale and Stanford are known by basically everybody and MIT and Princeton a little less known, but still known.
UCLA and UC Berkeley are somewhat foreign to people who are not associated with US colleges.

In Kyrgyzstan we know mainly Harvard(of course), Stanford, Princeton, and Yale. Although I also heard of Berkeley, MIT, and UCLA before I started all this application thing, I think not many high school students know them as well.
