Somewhat stealing Mapleleafs26's thread idea, what is your favorite type of food and why? (i.e. Italian, Thai...)

For me, it is Mexican food. I can't get enough of it. I get California Burritos with my friends at least once a week at an authentic hole-in-the-wall place. Nomnomnom.

I love any sort of food, as long as it tastes good. Authentic chinese (i mean authentic, look at the username) is great, particularly Sichuan. I will eat a burger if it’s REALLY good(I have a few local places) but in general I avoid fried stuff, unless it’s way above average. I love Indian, brick-oven pizza (not bertucci’s), authentic mexican (menudo etc is great), Pho (vietnamese)…yea, basically anything. I’ve had a lot of weird stuff as well (rule: if it is weird, I will not eat it, but if it is weird and good tasting, then I will eat it and love it) e.g hearts, intestines, blood (used sometimes in chinese cooking), abalone, sea cucumber, tripe etc. Sounds gross, but if made right, delicious. Haven’t tried brains or sweetbreads yet, I plan on eventually… I’ve had some high end stuff as well, which is always nice. Sandwiches are always great.

Yea, I’m kind of a food snob. My advice is to try all the tiny ethnic places around town that are cheap and nobody knows about. If you’ve never heard of the dish, chances are it’s authentic. You run the risk of it absolutely sucking, but it could also be the best thing you have ever had. (check out chowhound.com…it’s like CC except instead of colleges, cheap authentic places to eat. People post restaurant reviews…I have been to so many places because of that site)

Dislikes: Americanized Chinese. How dare you. (though I enjoy the occasional fried chicken with sweet sauce option once or twice a year)

EAT SOME REAL CHINESE, DAMMIT. It’s incredibly hard to find, but if you do…

Don’t you live in CA? Go down to the San Fran chinatown some time into a restaurant where you can’t read the menus and where there are a lot of chinese people (don’t go into an empty restaurant, they usually suck). When eating ethnic food, eat what ethnic people eat, not americans. Then find something that looks good, point to it, and order it. BAM.

Yes, I’m really self-righteous about restaurants. It’s a guilty pleasure.

Lol, I’ll have to do that more frequently. I’ve been to some nice restaurants in Chinatown. I don’t mind the local Chinese food restuarants though.

Also, if you go to Chinatown, try a mooncake:)

@math+sci=asian: how is that a fail? I live in San Diego. Mexican Food does not get any more authentic than that in America (when you go to the right places).

I like pasta. And Chinese food (at a restaurant run by Chinese people. Not that I won’t take American-style food…). And some Japanese food. Most Hawaiian food’s good too.

I love food and so I’ve been overweight, though it’s not all concentrated in one area and it’s not extreme. I was started on ADHD medicine and have lost a lot of weight because I’m not hungry anymore. I feel bad now because sometimes I find myself reaching for unhealthy food out of habit, and I realize I’m not even hungry.

@chinamanreturns: Your condescending remark is not necessary by any means. This website is dedicated to all kinds of discussion- and that includes food. Theoretically, you could tell every single person to “get on with their lives” on every single thread. But really, it just makes you look like an a$$ and no one wants to hear it.

haha they actually had an Ethiopian restaurant in Toronto and I ate at an Afghan restaurant there.
