Do you listen to music when studying?

if so, what do you listen to?

Yes, just as long as it doesn’t have words. Lyrics take me out of the text I’m reading. So, I usually either listen to classical, jazz, or post-rock.

could you recommend some CDs for jazz

hell no. i listen to music when doing homework. studying requires too much concentration for muzak

@tentai

I’d recommend Philip Glass’s Saxophone Concerto. It’s a concerto, but with a twist: saxophones. It’s a good introduction to the aesthetics of the instrument without being burdened with the complicated bluesy rhythms you’ll find in a lot of jazz (notice I said jazz, not smooth jazz, which is way more chill than jazz).

I’d also recommend some Gershwin. If you want more of his jazzy stuff, check out his piano songbook. If you want a hybrid of classical/jazz, Rhapsody in Blue.

^ thanks for the recommendation

I’ve listened to music before while studying to see how it would work for me. I know a lot of people can, but I simply can’t really do that productively while studying, it just totally takes me out of my concentration bubble haha.

What makes it even funnier is that most recently I tried listening to Mozart while studying history to see if it would help at all lol.

I listen to really ridiculous pop like lady gaga and ke$ha. Not all the time, but some of the time. If I get too tired and bored I get stupid. I prefer to put movies on for studying.

Personally I like listening to techno or dance music, especially songs without vocals. I can just tune out and focus. The beat helps keep me going too.

If I need a boost of energy or whatever then I’ll listen to some upbeat/party music but usually I’ll only listen to intrumentals or techno/electric. Something with no words. I find I try to remember the lyrics too much which distracts from studying.

I’m diggin glitch mob lately.

Music makes me think of other things, I can read text but not understand or remember anything that I just read if I listen to music.

I listen to loud rock. Somehow I can still tune it out. :/

explosions in the sky, sufjan stevens, the postal service, and the national for when i write papers and do homework assignments. studying though, it’s typically silence.

y’like Huey Lewis And The News?

Mostly electronica and dance music … preferably with limited-to-no lyrics :D

Or instrumental songs by artists I love. But usually I do this when I’m studying for a small quiz or doing a homework assignment. For exams like midterms and finals, I only listen to music when I am taking a break from studying. I can’t study and listen to music. Listening to music while studying for me = big fail.

The same song for hours. It’d usually be some light indie type stuff, but I’d literally have the same song on for 3-5 hours while studying for something big.
