Can you combine 2 classes to create your own double major in college or do you select a double major from preset combinations?
I’m not quite sure what you mean. A double major means you have two majors. I am majoring in math and in CS, so I am a CS and Math double major. I have lots of friends that are double majors, since it’s very common at my school: majoring in mathematical economics and in CS; in music and in business administration; in CS and in Accounting; in dance and in healthcare studies; in music and in chemistry; in music and in leadership studies; etc.
Would most colleges allow for a double major in philosophy and computer engineering?
That might be very difficult because computer engineering would be a BS (Bachelor of Science) and philosophy would most likely be a BA (Bachelor of Arts), although some schools might allow a choice between a BA and a BS for philosophy. Dual degree is not something that every university allows, so you’d want to look for a school that offered a BS in philosophy if this is something you want to pursue. Engineering degrees have a lot of requirements, however, so double majoring in another field, especially one that is not a STEM field, will most likely take more than 4 years, if the school allows it.
You can always consider minoring in philosophy if double majoring doesn’t work. Engineering can often be difficult to fit in a lot of extra classes.
It wouldn’t be difficult because one is a BA and one is a BS. Most colleges allow that. It would be difficult because computer engineering is a demanding major that requires a lot of classes in a very specific sequence, and even students who are majoring only in engineering often take more than four years to graduate. Adding another set of requirements will make it even more difficult to maintain your grades, take the classes you need and graduate in four years.
I’ve never heard of a college/university only allowing certain combinations of majors for double majoring.
