Do you need Algebra 2 to be successful in Precalc?

I think Algebra 2 is useless and all you need is Alg1 & geometry? I looked at the Algebra2 questions and its all just Algebra 1?

My Precal class is basically an extension of Algebra 2. We’re doing the same stuff except we go a bit more in depth. My friend, who is crazy good at Math, tested out of Alg 2. You might be able to do the same.

Alg 2 adds nothing to learn, except the rest of conics and logarithms. Precal is nothing buy an extension of Alg 2, adding polars, vectors, parametrics, more trig.

Half of precalc is algebra 2

Thats good. Because in 9th grade I chose to do normal Geometry.
And the people doing (Geometry + half Algebra2) kept bragging like they are genius’ at math.

Now I know I can do it.

Keep in mind that everyone who has posted (including me) are all good at mathematics. True, Precal is an extension of Algebra II but it ** is ** fairly important to know before going into Precal, especially if your precal is like mine and goes straight into the advanced stuff.

I might be wrong though. In my school, Honors Precal has the reputation for being the hardest class. The teacher went to MIT for undergrad and graduate school and worked as an engineer and businessman for a long time. He teaches because he likes it. Proof of this is his Ferrari parked in the Teacher’s parking lot. The teacher likes to teach us stuff on discrete mathematics and covers most of the material in Calc AB just for fun.

The reason for every math class is to develop as thorough an understanding of each branch in math so the next level is easier to learn and master. That is just my viewpoint.

it’s always good to have extra practice. if you think you can do without, more power to you … but you’d probably be missing out.

If you learned trig, logs, and whatever else in Alg 1 or Geometry, you probably don’t need Alg 2. Just google Alg 2 syllabi and determine whether or not you already know the material.

Personally, I didn’t really see any difference between precalc and alg 2. I know alg 2 introduced a few operations and functions that weren’t covered in my alg 1 and geometry classes, but I don’t remember any of the specifics.

I think I should take Alg2 just to be safe.

^^ You doing Course 16?
