Right now, I'm a Sophomore, and I really want to take AP classes my Junior year but right now I'm taking honors classes.
So far this year I have taken about 4 honors classes.
Theoretically, if I only took honors classes and aced them, would I still have a good change at UF?
I'm just afraid that I won't be making great grades in AP classes like I am in Honors.

I would say that unless your school doesn’t offer AP (which it does) or you have something else that sets you apart (like sports, music, etc.) it will hurt you not to take them. The academic competition to get into UF is tough and most kids have quite a few AP classes. If you are doing great in your honors classes why are you afraid to take AP? Even if you get a “B” it still counts as a 4.0 in your GPA. They want to see that you challenge yourself, work hard, make the extra effort. I would say getting in without them would be slim. Sorry :(

The previous poster is right. UF wants to see that you challenged yourself and that you took one of, if not the most rigorous schedule of courses offered at your high school.

^But with that in mind, don’t go crazy. If you hate math and aren’t good at it, don’t take AP Calc…take the AP classes that you’ll do the best in.

Thanks guys. I have decided to definitely take AP classes! I found some that I really like!
But do you think it would affect me that my school doesn’t allow you to take AP until Junior year?

No, I don’t think it will. They’ll look at all 4 years and while your Senior year grades won’t factor into your UF GPA they look to see that you’re taking a rigorous schedule your Senior year and not “slacking” off. I think they have an additional comments section or something on the application, go ahead and mention that your school won’t allow AP until your Junior year though, it couldn’t hurt. And just so you know my son was told by his guidance counselor that she has had kids sign up for AP classes Senior year, submit that information to UF on their application, and then drop them half way through and their admission was rescinded. She told him it would be much better to get a “C” in a class your struggling with then drop it. She hadn’t seen them rescind for that but for dropping it, they have. Just something to keep in mind. :)

My school also didn’t offer AP classes for 9th or 10th graders (they changed that rule for the class under me) and I got in! Good luck!

Oh, wow! That’s awesome! Thanks!
