just a quick question: do colleges check your documented volunteer work with the school? i have some volunteer work that may not have been documented so i was wondering...

That may not have been documented, or that may be a LIE? ;)

In most cases, colleges do not check on documentation for community service. There are exceptions (such as the UC's doing random checks to verify your extra-curriculars). This blase attitude is what encourages so many students to lie on their applications, something that should be stopped morally, but isn't.

Yea, in my school, we don’t actually document ATTENDANCE. We can document our name on a roster, but that’s as far as it goes.

This comes up a lot on the forum. Truth be told, most colleges give little or no weight to ECs so volunteer hours aren’t going to matter. For colleges that do care, just being a volunteer somewhere isn’t going to be enough to stand out in the crowd of other applicants (eg. matter).

That said, some schools like it was mentioned earlier will verify an EC.
