Is it a good idea to have some lockable type box in your room for cash, credit cards and stuff?

I bought one for my son that locks onto his bed frame and can be hidden by his covers so it is not too noticeable. He found it useful for his passport and things he did not use regularly like his camera. He also kept the cash we gave him for emergencies in there. We ordered online but found that his bookstore sold the same thing so you can check that before lugging it from wherever you are. His roomate decided to get one after seeing my sons.

Only if you have really really important stuff or if you don’t trust your roommate/your roommate’s friends.

I didn’t bother to get one. No one is going to break through the door, so as long as your roommate/roommate’s friends aremn’t *******s you’ll be fine. Though that is a big if. In my case, I just hid valuables in unlikely places. Unless you can hide your safe REALLY well or it is difficult to just take out of the room, that isn’t going to help much.

I remembered where I ordered my sons lock box. Google dorm vault and there are two types. It is going to be more secure than just a lock box. Another alternative is to get a storage locker that can be locked. While someone could take this from your room it would probably be quite heavy if you have lots of stuff in it. S kept his saxophone in there along with some other odds and ends. Depends where you go to college as some places don’t have much of a problem as others but it would be a hassle to replace stolen items plus you would be extrememly ****ed. If you are concerned go ahead. Most parents would want you to anyway.

I’ve never seen someone with a safe, lol. Never seen a lock box either, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few people had them. Thing with a lock box is it can be stolen. And smash open.
