Do you need them both (ACT and SAT)?

Daughter (h.s.junior) just took SAT for the first time (scores will be up soon...which may help in the decision process). She's looking to major in musical theatre, but her list of schools includes such as UMich, Penn State, as well as some others (strong musical theatre programs). Does she also need to take the ACT, or are schools content w/a decent SAT score? (I know...we need to go to each school's website to see what they require...but just in general, is it better to have both sets of scores?) She will most likely make the cutoff in our state for National Merit from PSAT..hoping the SAT scores are high enough to keep her going on in the competition....

Advantages/disadvantages of taking both tests?

All colleges listed on any ranking list (including any your D is considering) accept either the SAT or ACT for admission (except some require no test at all). If you have one and are satisfied with the score you do not need to take the other.
