Do you need to know biology and chemistry for ACT?

Hey.

I've just found out that ACT seems a lot easier for me than SAT does, but I have few doubts about this science section. I did all of the practice sections here - Science Passages | Sample Science Questions: Passage 1 | ACT Student and well, I scored 100% on each of them.

However, are they the same as on the real tests? The problem is that the last time I had chemistry was 3 years ago and I had no biology whatsoever. I consider myself pretty decent in a mathematics, both SAT and ACT math section does not provide a challenge and same goes with SAT II Physics.

My question is, do you NEED to know chemistry and biology in order to score 34+? I can hardly remember periodic elements, even though I had an A, but 3 years are 3 years.

Thanks for the answers.

The amount of chemistry I know is laughable. The ACT I took had nothing like periodic elements and that stuff. I do know biology and being in AP biology did help me understand and answer quicker a particular question set. However, the ACT science is largely graph and paragraph comprehension, quite like the ones on the website. For reference, I got a 34 in science.

Thank you for your answer.

I just did a practice test (the official one on the ACT page) and I got 33, though I finished like 2 minutes after a limit. Clearly, the chemistry and biology knowledge is not needed.

Though, I would like to ask you nhdmaniac, do you think it’s wise to skip to the questions first and look for the answers afterwards? Especially in the sections where you have very little written information, but many graphs…

//edit: nevermind, I’ve seen that you said exactly that in an another topic.
