Do you need to meet with your BGO?

My son is applying to USNA and he is accepted to USNA Summer Seminar.
He is currently finishing up the application for Congressional Nomination.

I have a questions about the admission procedure.

Do you need to meet with your BGO? ----I don't think my son knows who is his BGO.
Is it necessary or beneficial to find out who your BGO and contact him somehow?

Second question I have is about his chance of getting an appointment.

He is Asian male in Northern Virginia area.
UW GPA :3.69 W GPA:3.94 ACT: Composite 28 ( 29E, 28M)
JROTC officer (enrolled in JROTC 9-11)
Some JROTC Cadet Awards.

Any thoughts or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Being interviewed by your assigned BGO is part of the admissions process. Check the USNA homepage for more details on the steps for admissions. Frankly, no one on any of these forums can evaluate someone’s chance for admission by reading a brief resume.

Thank you Time2 for the info.

Unlike at secular institutions, “chancing” is impossible to forecast beyond looking at some stats vs. the previous class profile. Upsides for your son on 1st blush … Asian ethnicity will not hurt him. He should work to improve his ACT scores, especially in math. This may be especially important as he is in one of the most competitive areas. What about athletics? Good sign he got accepted to NASS.
