There are a couple schools at which D has had a formal interview but has decided not to apply. Should she inform the school of that decision? Does the file stay "open" waiting for the application to arrive?

Last year, we asked to be taken off mailing lists of schools we were no longer interested in pursuing…out of courtesy/savings on postage & materials.

For one school that was not right for our older daughter but perhaps a good fit for our younger daughter, we did write a note/email to the AO stating that. For schools where it just wasn’t cutting it for any of us, we did not send any communications.

Note that one school that didn’t make the cut last year included us in some in-depth telemarketing survey on our consideration set, perceptions of selected boarding schools, and why we chose to apply to certain schools. Based on the questions, I was assumed that Exeter had sponsored the study.

As a courtesy you should inform the schools that your daughter has decided not to apply. Otherwise, the files stay open waiting for the application, and you would probably receive email notifications reminding you that paperwork has not been received.
