So obviously it’s a little early in the school year to be thinking about this, but I’ve been thinking about what I plan to have as my schedule next year. Currently, I am a sophomore in high school, and my academic schedule is this:
English Honors
Chemistry Honors
AP Calculus AB (though I’m self studying the BC portion)
AP Japanese
AP European History
I also am self studying for the AP World History, AP Human Geography, and AP Psychology tests next year.
Next year as a junior I plan to be taking a full schedule of AP classes with
AP Language and Composition
AP United States History
AP Physics
AP Chemistry
AP Computer Science
The last AP would be either AP Biology or AP Statistics, which is the dilemma I now face. My goal is to apply to college during junior year, effectively skipping senior year (most likely only going if I make it into either of my goal schools, UChicago or MIT). Ideally, I plan to go and get a degree in computer science and then go onto law school.
All I need to decide is between Stats and Bio.
Pros to Bio:
-Trifecta of sciences would look impressive
-I really enjoyed the bio teacher when I took bio last year
-Gets bio requirement out of the way at most schools
-I would learn more about the biological systems, especially my favorite part of bio, genetics
-I could always try self studying Stats if I was desperate. While if I took stats bio is harder to self study (as one of my friends has shown)
Pros to Stats:
-Easy workload compared to a bunch more homework with Bio
-Would probably be more useful in the long run based on my interests
-Bio is my least favorite of the three sciences, so it would be the one I could ditch the easiest
-Would look good to have a math all 3 years
If I didn’t go to college early, then I would most likely take the other of the class I didn’t take along.
If you could give your opinions, that’d be very much apprecaited
