do you recommned taking Computer Science at berkeley?
i heard computer science is one of the toughest courses at berkeley.
computer science is a prerequisite for Haas so I will need to take it.
I could take it over the summer at a community college or at berkeley later on. how tough is computer science at berkeley for an incoming student with basic computer experience?

Well, the "dreaded" CS major is EECS - "eeks" if you will - which is definitely not a prereq to Haas. CS in LAS would be more manageable.

Going in with basic comp experience: Most colleges take you from the ground up; i.e. having basic experience is enough as long as you don't gimp the into courses (Object Oriented programming is very intuitive anyway).

computer science a prereq for haas? by computer science do you mean statistics?

no i do not mean statistics (i wish it was).

CS is a requirement.

But is this a programming course, or some sort of computer useage course? And saying "dreaded computer science" doesn't make too much sense, seeing as there are just so many classes in the subject. A major/department is not a course.

This requirement is usually filled by one of those utilitarian 'computing service' courses like the CS 3 or 9 series. The CS 3 series in particular is certainly not comparable to what you would find in the 61 series, which are the true prereqs for the CS major.

im an eecs major..... with no post recognition of any programming language... gonna take cs 3l before i take on the other cs courses!

Hey guys, if you need any help with the CS courses at Cal, don't hesitate to pm me. Good luck.

crap i suck with computers

hey yogi, it's doable to do cs 3l before cs 61a right? in eecs?

Not sure what you mean by "in eecs", it's the same class regardless what major you are. If you really have no programming experience at all, yea, I would take CS3 before 61A. 61A isn't that bad, but they recommend you have some background in some sort of programming. If you have the time to take CS3, go for it. You could also look at some of the webcasts for 61A and see if you'd be comfortable with it (http://webcast.berkeley.edu). If it doesn't look bad, don't waste your time with CS3.
