do you rock out while studying?

do you guys listen to music while studying? if so, what genre? do you all think that it's helpful or beneficial (i heard a while ago that classical helps with studying or test taking or something bizarre like that...)? or do you admit it's rather distracting?

i can tell you one thing, listening to hip hop+ studying is not good for me, lol

it depends--if i'm doing math homework then it helps because it keeps me energized. but when reading i certainly cannot because i start listening to the lyrics and it distracts me while reading.

I love listening to music while studying. However it depends on what type of homework and what genre. If I'm reading complex material and taking notes, I need silence. If it is a light reading/reading for pleasure or studying for a quiz or something that isn't a big deal, I listen to rock music (no heavy metal, more upbeat punk). I can't really listen to hip-hop/rap music because I just end up wanting to sing and dance instead of studying. I don't listen to classical music...

Depends on the type of homework. If it's something math-related (or anything that doesn't require grammar), it can be anything. If it's foreign-language homework, usually classical. If I'm programming, trance music (since then I can sort of get in a groove and not pay attention to anything else).

I used to listen to music while I was studying and writing papers in my dorm room. I wore headphones. It kept me awake and not dozing off on materials that were mundane and difficult. Always make sure to highlight and write notes on the side.

I don't usually listen to music since it distracts me more than anything else, especially since most of my homework is reading something very dense.

I dunno I experiment with no music and with alternative/indie rock here and there, I haven't found any combination that I can't work with ever. Actually what really works for me is listening to music that I haven't almost memorized, like internet radio or something, then the music is more of a blur and I can focus more...

I will listen to anything. I need music when I study. My subconscious wanders off if I don't. I don't get distracted although sometimes I'll get up to gyrate bootyliciously for a few minutes.

I listen to techno, trance, and classical for just about everything.

Rage Against the Machine. Nothing else. But ONLY with headphones on and NOT loud enough where anyone else can here me (I always take my headphones off every so often, and hold them a foot from me to make sure I can't here them haha).

ratm is meant to be blasted what is wrong with you. i dont even like the band but come on

Sorry I have respect for other people when I'm around them . . . !

(and before anyone says anything, sorry for using the wrong form of hear in my 1st post)

I tend to work in my office pretty late at night so I can blast stuff as loud as I like. A few times I've had campus police wander by and look in because they don't believe some nerd would be up at 2 AM blasting Black Sabbath in one of the buildings, haha.

I need quiet or classical. But during my breaks, I put on music and dance. Two nights ago, I was busted by some guy walking by.

I can't concentrate AT ALL when music's on. I just jam out and lose all focus =D
