Do you send thank you note after audition?

My husband says yes, I say no. What is protocol?

I don’t think thank you notes are necessary after the auditions. Perhaps there are situations in which auditors go above and beyond, but generally, they are doing their jobs.

Actually, there was one situation in which my D emailed an auditor after the audition. The teacher she had a sample lesson with arranged to be on her panel. My D emailed her afterward thanking her for making the arrangements and telling her how nice it was to see a familiar, friendly fact - or something along those lines.

Yes after trial lesson, no after audition.

After my son got accepted, he had some very lively email correspondences with applied teachers…but he did not write thank you notes after the auditions.

He did write them after the sample lessons.

Mine did as stradmom says.

Mine too, just like Binx and stradmom. Often students don’t even know who is sitting on their panel- one school had the VP students singing in a totally dark hall, with just a pin-spot on them . The members of the panel were disembodied voices from the back!

Yep, after the sample lesson and not after the audition.

I see everyone is in agreement with me  - I’ll happily let my husband know.

Enjoy yourself, jsmom!!

What if you forgot to write a thank you note after sample lessons, but really wanted to? I’ve had two at my top choice school now, and the teacher there even said that she’d love to work with me one more time before my audition (which really surprised me). Would it be awkward to write a note if I might see her again?

It is never awkward to say “thank you”. Being a sycophant or “schmoozing” is one thing, but a heartfelt thank you is always welcome. Even a belated one.

Thankgod for CC. D and I have been arguing all morning about thank you notes post audition. Finally I said I’d do what was recommended on CC, my guide in all things musical. So it’s “thank you” for the lesson, nothing for the audition. CC–the Emily Post of the college world!
