I looked all over the Harvard website and I can't find anything about interviews. I'm filling out the common application for Harvard and I wanted to know when I need to have an interview date by. Also, I know some schools contact you while others ask that you set up the date yourself, so how does this work as far as Harvard admissions?

You will be contacted by a local alum.

How much importance does Harvard place on the interview? Would it hurt my chances if I didn't get one?

Everyone is supposed to get one, unless you're international or in an extremely remote rural area. You should still get an interview if you're in a major international city (London, Hong Kong, etc.). If you don't hear from them with a couple of months of filing your application, give the office a call to make sure the alumni in your area didn't lose track of you.
