Do they help/give advice? I'm just wondering. Personally, I would feel kind of awkward showing my parents my essays.

I worked on my Common App essay while at a summer program, so when I came home, my edit copy was drifting around with the other miscellany items in a basket. She read it.

I don't mind. My mother's a grammar and composition nerd so it is always good to have an extra editor!

I would, but they don't speak english :(

no cause my parents will be like "you never did that" or some crap.

No. My parents aren't too good at grammar and the like.

My parents wouldn't be any help. English is their second language, and even though they do have good grammar...it's not that great. Whenever I had asked them to read school reports they would respond, "Oh my! When did you write this great! You're a talented writer....unless you copied off the internet...This does not sound like something someone your age would be writing!" :/

so..no...I don't think I will. Like someone above said, they would say I never did something. Like if I put down, "I love helping people and caring for others is my main desire". They would respond, "What! No!! You're so mean to your sisters!"

i wouldnt show my parents my application

lol if i showd my parents my essays, they would say something like this is good, but...

the "..." is all the crap ideas like i wrote about my idol, Sir Isaac Newton, and they said something along the lines of why him, he is old. do some one like Michael Phelps. he is inspirational.

too bad i am not a swimmer, nor is he my idol...

yea i show my parents. and english isn't their first language but they're not bad writers. i think it helps to get 2nd, 3rd, etc. opinions regardless of who it is...they might make a comment that ends up helping you out

Yes, my mom is good with grammar. Neither of my parents really offer any specific opinions on what I should fix, but if if they don't seem that impressed I usually go back and look at what the problem might be.

Well, I show my parents my essays just to show my parents my essays.

Anyone done that?

Sometimes I tell my mom essay ideas, but for some reason she never thinks they're as brilliant as I do. :/

^ I know what you mean

I asked my mom if she wanted me to read it to her, and she just plain said NO.

i did and i got smacked

Not really. I don't usually show my parents my writing unless it's like a history paper or a research paper. College essays are kind of personal to me, and I don't know, I just don't like showing them my writing like that. Oh well.

i think i will... cuz my parents can help me to find out some grammar errors or they probably have better ideas = ) i would still love my brother to take a look...
