Do you still apply to RDs after being accepted EA?

Just curious for opinions.
I was accepted to Stanford EA (first choice), but I still decided to apply to all my RD schools (9 of them). I wanted to keep my options open, but my friends all thought this was really crazy. If you get accepted to your top choice EA, would you still apply to your Regulars? You know, just in case?

Thanks!

It depends. The kids I know who got into Stanford or Yale SCEA applied to one or two other schools. If you need FA, definitely pick a couple, just in case.

Applying to 9 other schools seems like a complete waste of everyone’s time. Surely you should be able to make a rational selection of one or two schools that you MIGHT consider over Stanford. Trophy hunting is unattractive, and you may well be decreasing the chances of another student from your school or region, or with your interests and activities, of being accepted at a school that they really, really want to go to.

It depends on the kid. That is the whole point of applying EA so you can narrow down the number of applications you have to do. I don’t see why you need to apply to 9 schools in RD, I only see the need to apply to 2-3 schools.

Thanks for your responses.

Yea 9 schools does sound a lot, but 4 of them I’m applying because there is a tiny chance I’ll pick them over Stanford (like Princeton, Yale closer to home), and 3 that has special programs (like PLME of Brown), and 2 that my parents kinda made me apply to…
