Do you still fill out the FAFSA if you're getting your BS in the spring?

Totally unfamiliar with grad school finances. Son will get his BS in the spring, and will attend grad school in the fall. Don't know if he's getting funding for grad school or not, as he's getting a terminal MS degree.

Should we still fill out the FAFSA, or is that only for undergrad financial aid?

If not the FAFSA, is there an equivalent for grad school?

Thanks!

The FAFSA covers all types of aid, undergrad AND grad. Federal loans would still require the FAFSA, and university funding may also require it as a matter of course - if so, they will tell him. Filling it out is pretty quick, so it might be worthwhile regardless - if he suddenly realizes he needs loan money, filing the FAFSA will delay the money by a couple of weeks.

Thank you so much, cosmic. So glad I asked! Now, do I do it after my taxes are filed for this year, or do I use 2012’s figures?

If it is for the 2014-2015 school year you will use your 2013 return.

Yes. he still has to fill FAFSA if he wants to use the STAFFORD LOANS. The only difference is that he will not be qualified for Pell grant anymore, and his max yearly loan limit will increased to about 20.500 or so.
Best of luck to your Son.

I knew there were some limitations to aid you could get once you get a bachelor’s. That’s why I was thinking we didn’t have to fill it out anymore. Glad to know that the loan amount will increase. He’ll have to cover housing, meals, tuition and books, so it will be a fair amount, but at least it will only be for two years. Hoping he can find an oncampus job to put food on the table, at least.
