I find group studies basically plug and chug, whereas studying alone actually gets me to really learn the material.

Haha me too! I thought I was crazy when people ask me to go with them for a group study, never learned a damn thing, I think its because while there we have to cater to everyone, and everyone has difficulties with different areas.

group study isn’t study, it turns in to social hour. so if you don’t actually need to study, it’s great fun.

I do really well in group study sessions. I tend to study alone because I have a hard time getting study groups together, but I learn a lot better in group study because I get a chance to hear things in different words than the professor used and my classmates think of things that I haven’t.

I do it on my own and then check with other people when I’m done.

Both. I love studying in groups, basically for what Twisted said, and explaining something to someone else helps me cement it in my mind. I need to study on my own though, or I will never learn. So I like to study alone first, then study in a group (vice versa works, too), but I don’t usually get to study in a group. They’re kinda hard to get together. :

I can’t study in groups. We always get distracted, or I feel like it doesn’t go at the pace I need.

Of course, studying alone usually leads to me surfing the web or listening to music.

Really depends on the group, if they’re my close friends then it will probably end up being a massive waste of time. If its with some of my hard core engineering classmates then a bit may get accomplished. Overall I prefer to study alone.

study alone

In high school, I used to do study groups for AP Chem with my friends. We were…relatively productive, but we definitely got sidetracked many times. In college, I usually study by myself, but there are some classes for which I will study with another person (more than one other person, and it gets unproductive). I find that study groups are the most helpful when you’ve already done some substantial studying yourself.

I find that people who get together for study groups tend to be those who don’t really “get it” (at least prior to studying)…but sometimes study groups are fun

I study alone mostly, but then will recite/ask questions about the material with a partner. Any more than 3 people studying is useless in my opinion.

Study alone = no distractions :)

“Study alone = no distractions”

Except facebook, and the tv, and my roommate, and all the things in my fridge, and college confidential, and all the other things I cant be doing if I am sitting in the library with someone who expects me to help them study in return for helping me. :P

I rarely benefit from group study.

Study groups for me always turn into social events where nothing ever gets done.

I also cannot really concentrate or learn the material in depth when I’m studying with others.

So, I am all for studying alone. :-p

Study group = huge distraction. Never get anything done.

Working on a project with someone else = potential lifesaver.

Go to the library to where there’s a floor that’s relatively unpopulated and quiet. Don’t bring your laptop and leave your cell phone in your backpack. I get stuff done.

Yeah, I never understood why my professors sometimes recommend study groups. I tend to learn a lot better on my own for the reasons mentioned above.

I’ll only study with others if I want to hang out with a girl(s).
