Do you study with music (earphones) on?

Does it help you concentrate or is it distracting?

Oh God no. If I have earphones on for more than 30 minutes, my ears start hurting like hell.

If anything, I’ll listen to music on my computer through the speakers. But that’s only for mindless tasks (AP Euro, Spanish, etc).

I actually do atleast while studying anything even vaguely involving math physics or chem. That means I do, always. It helps me concentrate in a way, taking away all the neighboring noise and in a gunny sort of way I am not distracted by James heitfield singing in the background

I don’t listen to music even when I’m not studying.

wow Mosby no offense but how can you not listen to music??

Sure, why not? But I can study without them. But if there isn’t music on, I get distracted really easily. (As in, that’s a really loud car outside. Let me go see whose it is…)

^^ I agree, I think music helps me focus because it clears out the noise from outside environment

But then, music distracts me too, though not as much… >.>

Just never got into it, I guess.

Alllllll the time. I think music helps me concentrate better. My dad disagrees though. He always flips out when he sees me studying and listening to music at the same time.

Yeah I do  not all the time though. It helps me concentrate sometimes.

Constantly. I can’t study with silence; I need my music.

Hell yes! Go music WOOT WOOT!

No, earphones hurt.

I typically plug my iPod up to its speakers or I listen to the music channels on my television.

Always.

I live in a very small space, so I pretty much hear just about everything, everyone’s conversation, etc. Gotta find a way to block everything out.

I do, but probably shouldn’t. I’ll be 70% listening to the music and 30% concentrating on studying and when I finish writing a sentence I have no idea what I just wrote.

If it doesn’t have lyrics though, it’s all good.

^Yeah, I usually have to listen to something without lyrics or something I don’t know the lyrics to or I start singing along :b

I sometimes do (if I’m really bored) but it slows me down. I was doing algebra HW and I was too focused on the lyrics it took me twice my regular time… not so good!
Once I was listening to a Podcast and they said something funny/random and I started laughing and I forgot what I was doing.
Surprisingly some of my teachers at school let us listen to music (iPods and MP3) while we work when they’re not talking… I personally think this is really stupid, nobody is very productive.

^ That’s really cool… my school recently abolished the usage of all electronic devices in class (iPods included), so teachers flip a **** whenever they so much see iPod earphones visible. I always loved listening to music in class while doing mindless busy work.
