Do you think 21 credits is too much?

i’m currently taking

Computer Basics
Modern US History
English comp 1
Pre-algebra
Gen Psychology 101
Child growth and development

each class is 3 credits each and im thinking about adding another class.
*Pre-algebra is a non-graduating course so im not getting any credits for that class :confused:
yes im currently taking 18 credits but its like im taking 15

Are you a freshman? I’d stick with what you have, you aren’t into the hard part of the semester yet.

Yes, I’m a freshman… 8->

Just because pre-algebra doesn’t count for graduation doesn’t mean that it won’t be time-consuming. Stick with the 18 credits (which is already one course above a normal load) and make sure that you can devote enough time and energy to each of those 6 courses. If you find that you can, and earned good grades, then by all means take 21 credits next term.

Math classes can be very time consuming. Just because you aren’t getting credit for it doesn’t mean it will be easier. You are taking the class to gain knowledge and that takes time.

College isn’t a race. No need to stretch it out but do that the time to learn.

I agree with the others in that you should stick with 18 for your first term. If it works out great, go for more the next.

Stick with 18.

As long as you are good at time management and have a strong work ethic, it’s more than do-able.

You are likely going to need an advisor’s permission to take more than 18 credits, and an advisor may not be willing to do that for a freshman. You don’t want to start out with a bad GPA because then you will be digging yourself out of a hole that can, among other things, impact your eligibility for financial aid.

How did this pan out? At my CC, I had to get approval from the dean to take 22 units as 18 was the limit. He stated that if I didn’t have a 4.0 GPA, he would not approve my request. I have no idea if he was joking, but he did check my GPA and it was the number he wanted. To be honest, I could not handle the 22 units. My schedule was:

-Objected Oriented C++
-Data Structures with C++
-Spanish
-Stats
-Symbolic Logic
-Macroeconmoics (8 week course)

The math course was a lower unit count than most others (4 as opposed to 5), but I had so much trouble managing this schedule. Oddly enough, the easiest class for me was macro with a professor that had a reputation for grading too harshly; I guess he was being more laidback the semester I took his class. I struggled so much with stats though. I found myself studying for every class but my stats course and whenever we had exams, I pretty much bombed them. I was lucky to get a B grade by doing extra credit that was insanely time consuming (my guess was that he thought the majority of students wouldn’t even attempt the extra credit projects).

So yeah, I hope you fared better if you went for so many units. I only tackled so many because I wanted to transfer and meet the minimum unit requirements.
