CalSO info

Is it better to go to CalSO at one of the earliest dates to get an upperhand on meeting with your advisor and registering for classes or does it not matter?

The earlier the Calso the earlier you can sign up for classes that are impacted like the sciences.

ok honestly:
you don’t get that much for calso, despite what other people are saying. you get to tour campus, talk to some advisers about college and cal, do some social things, meet people, and sign up for classes.

everything you will be repeat or learn once you start the semester - the only thing is signing up for the classes you want. I wouldn’t pay 210 dollars for that, and I didn’t. but I’m not from california. However, I wanted to take a bunch of popular science classes and I was at the bottom of the waitlist by the time I got my AC, and that ****ed me off.

OP: If you want to take chem1a and espm50ac, go to calso. if you’re ok with taking less popular classes just your first semester or sitting on the waitlist for at LEAST the first week of classes, then don’t worry about it.

people who do not live in CA, are you planning to go?

lol CalBearTH I also live in San Diego and am majoring in MCB. I’m going to the SoCal CalSo

haha i havent been invited to the SoCal CalSo… are you a pell grant recipient by any chance ?

Si. Since you live in SoCal I assume you know Spanish

a little bit. but im fluent in french lol

There’s also a CalSO for parents which is $210. Do you think is worth it for parents to attend.

wait, you have to be invited to the SoCal one?

well if you dont see it on your myberkeleyapp how are you gonna sign up for it lol

Does anyone know what time the first night of CalSO ends? I didn’t sign up for overnight reservations because I only live an hour away, but I could’t find out when the first day ends to find out when to take the BART back. All it said was the whole thing ends at 1 PM on the second day.

There are usually social activities that evening, such as climbing up to the big C, thus this goes until fairly late at night.

Why don’t u just stay overnight! It’s included in the cost…

I didn’t sign up to stay overnight because I could have sworn it said that it ended at 1 pm on the first day as well, but I guess that’s not the case. I didn’t realize that it was such a long event!

Can anyone tell me if it’s worth it for parents to attend the CalSO. It’s $210 per parent.

not worthy… don’t let your parent know too much about you… just kidding, but it’s really not necessary unless they want a visit

Thanks Dreamspace

I didn’t like CalSO and if I had to do it all over again I would try to figure out how to get out of it.

I spent a little bit of time in the student store browsing books and magazines which helped.

I recommend you take a look at the schedule and just go do your own thing during the presentations that are about things you already know.
