I don't have that great of a GPA (3.25). I had a 2.6 cumulative at the end of my second semester of sophomore year. Then I got a 3.5, 3.7 and 3.9. I scored a 1950 on my SAT's. I am a National Achievement Finalist (200 on PSAT and African American). I have a Varsity Letter for both Football and Lacrosse. I am the head of the Multi-Cultural Student Union at my school. Do you think I can get in or does the GPA pretty much shoot me in the foot?

Seanyboy21, If USMA is something you really want . Then put your heart and soul into achieving that goal. You will never know unless you give it your best shot. Good Luck.

I know this is what I want. I have no doubt in my mind. If I don’t get in I am for sure doing NROTC Marine Option regardless of receiving a scholarship or not. I plan on making the Military my career.

seanyvboy,

It’s a great sign that your grades are tracking up. Keep up the good work. It sounds like you’re a junior now, so start getting ready.
You can contact your members of Congress and gather the materials you’ll need for nomination applications.
If you haven’t opened your file yet, go to the usma.edu website and get that started. Let your teachers know that you’ll be asking for letters from them. They’ll likely appreciate having the summer to write them.
Keep up your fitness and look at what you’ll need to do for the CFA.
If you are asked to schedule a DoDMERB exam, do so immediately. In case you have any remedials to resolve, you’ll have enough time.
Finally, if your ultimate goal is to be an Officer in the Army, then begin looking at ROTC programs.

Thank you for your interest in serving your country. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

make sure you have a back-up plan, seanyvboy… for real…

From what I can gather, class rank is more important than GPA.
