Hi, so Columbia is 100% my first choice I'm just wondering if you can give me input and also if you think ED is a good idea.

SAT: 2090, but I'm taking again so I might do better.
SAT II Lit.: 740
Math 2: 670
U.S.: 690 and I'm planning on taking these three over again.

I go to a public school and I'm in a gifted magnet
GPA weighted: 4.194
Rank: 16/780 maybe out of 86 for just the magnet

AP's:
U.S. 5
Eng. Lang. 4
Calc. AB 4
Euro. 4
Chem. 2
French Lang. 2

Senior Schedule:
H. Physics
AP Econ
AP Gov
AP Calc BC
AP Eng Lit
computers

I'm on my school's speech and debate team, member of a couple clubs, involved in community service. I went to Columbia's summer program this summer. I've taken only honors and ap classes throughout high school, and have received awards for academic excellence and all that jazz. I was um recognized by NMSC. I like knitting and I'm a total cinephile. Okay, that's all I can think of. So, yeah, thanks for responding if you do. Oh yeah, and I don't really need financial aid, so that's not an issue for me.

Dont apply ED if you intend to retake both SAT I and SAT II. There is not enough time for that is there? But maybe there is if you rush (although I don't think Columbia allows rush)

Go ahead and apply ED even if you retake...you can always RD with your new scores later (unless application cost is a significant burden). Try rushing your new scores anyway, almost all universities are very lenient on due dates...remember that the admissions office is comprised of human beings and not robots.

No time to retake both for ED if you didn't already sign up for Nov. SATs but you can do it by the Dec. test date if you're going RD. Oh, and by the way, don't rush.

Quoted from the Columbia website:

"Please do not utilize the rush service in sending your test scores to Columbia. Doing so does not speed up the processing of your test scores. We obtain all testing via a secure Web site to which we are provided access by the appropriate testing agency. Scores which are sent via the rush service are sent to us in paper form, which we are no longer able to process."

Sure, they're humans not robots but disobeying their set rules and assuming that you can create exceptions for yourself isn't what I'd call starting off on the right foot.

Er, and I wouldn't list your Chem and French AP grades...I think they'd work more against you than for you. You've got enough good scores there without drawing attention to the bad ones.

And "recognized" by NMSC is either commended or semifi/finalist. I suggest getting those straight because semifi is a whole lot more appealing than commended. Finalist is better than both but if you're up to semifi, it's basically assumed that you're finalist with 15000 out of 16,000 advancing.
