Do you think I could get into CMU?

Hi! I am going into my sophomore year of high school and already have my eyes set on a school, Carnegie Mellon. I’d love to pursue engineering there. I thought I’d fill you in on some important grades and information and you guys could tell me my chances of getting in (I am new to this)!

Freshman Year:
Average GPA of 96.250/100 (I can probably get it up)
Rank: haven’t received a rank yet, we get them after sophomore year

Algebra: 95
Honors English: 94
Earth Science: 92 Regents: 84 (Very disappointed by this grade… Thought I aced it)
Spanish: 100
Design/drawing: 99
AP Global History: 98
Gym: 99

Took electricity, film, and design/drawing for electives

EC Activities:
Class president since the 6th grade
Stage crew for high school play
Varsity soccer and basketball
Leo’s club (community service)
DECA club

SAT: have not taken it yet, I’ve taken tests similar, I will most likely score around a 2000 or 2200 on it

Thank you!

Your grades and extracurriculars look good as of now. Here’re some pointers for the following three years:

  1. Focus your extracurricular activities on engineering related activities and attain as many leadership positions as you can.
  2. Standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT are important. I’d aim for 33-34 on the ACT since the SAT is changing next year.
  3. Show demonstrated interest in Carnegie Mellon by visiting and perhaps speaking to some admissions officers. The school holds demonstrated interest in high regard and has denied all those who demonstrated none from my school this year.

Wish you best of luck in the college admissions process!
