However 5 of my siblings have gone/ are going to college. (One’s a dentist, one’s a nucleur engineer, one’s attending Stanford, and one’s attending UCSD, and the other UCLA) I just wanted to know if this is going to play a big part in the decision if your siblings attended pretty good schools/ the others are making a decent living.
I really want to become a finalist and have worked really hard on my application. I thought I had a pretty good chance considering my stats/ family income however I just found the part where it says to input all your brothers/sisters current status. I feel very sad and discouraged now, but i’m wondering if anyone knows if I’d still have a chance?
@minhmvi I wouldn’t let this deter you from applying. Our family did not fit within the “typical” QuestBridge applicant profile and my daughter was accepted. We hesitated about applying thinking she would never be chosen as in several areas she/we did not fall within the given parameters. In the end we decided to go ahead and try, after all we had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Don’t decide that you don’t qualify, let QuestBridge make that determination.
If your siblings’ successes are an inspiration to you, this could really work in your favor. The schools are looking for stories of success-against-the-odds, and motivated kids with goals.
OP I would say that it is the opposite. Your siblings have done amazingly well and if you follow in their footsteps, you will too. Your income is very low so obviously you must be facing some challenges. Not sure if all 10 members of family will be considered dependents if they are over 24 but again, your income is very low no matter what the household size. From S’s experience w Questbridge they are making an “investment” in their finalists, and you sound like a sure bet. Maybe take a hard look at your GPA and scores and run it by others on this website who can help you figure out which schools are matches / reaches so that if you are selected you will have a good strategy.
