Hi, I would like to know if I have a chance of getting into UNC. My GPA is freshman year was very bad 2.8, but this was because there was a lot of things going on at the time. 10th and 11th grade I got 4.0 and 3.97. My combined gpa is around 3.45 Unweighted and 4.06 weighted. But since application deadline for UNC is in January, I will include 1st semester of senior year, which will probably make my gpa: Unweighted 3.52 Weighted 4.15. My SAT score is 1350.
I also heard that Princeton and Stanford recalculate without freshman year, if this is true, I would have unweighted 3.93 Weighted 4.65, would I have a chance of getting in to these schools?
Without a very large donation or granite-strong hook, it’s unfortunately not looking good. Your SATs are very low for those schools and you’ll be compared to superstar students from across the country and the world. Are you in-state for UNC? That would boost your odds slightly there. The good news is that there are over 2,000 other excellent colleges in the country that would be delighted to give you a wonderful education.
What if I can boost my sat to 1450?
Do you think it can help that I have a family member working at Princeton?
1450 would set you around the 25th percentile, so UNC is still a little reachy. Give it a shot, though.
Princeton hires over 2,300 academic and administrative staff, so, unless your relation happens to sit at the top of that food chain, it is unlikely to make a difference.
