I’m also looking at Emory, but Brown would also be wonderful! I want to major in English/Writing.

HERE IS MY STORY:

I went from being the bottom half of my class in high school (2.9 GPA) to being an Honors student with a 3.84 GPA at my local community college. I am part of the Honors College and Phi Theta Kappa. Each semester, I’ve been taking at least two courses in honors and have worked one-on-one with my professors.

The reason why I did so poorly in high school was largely due to multiple undiagnosed autoimmune diseases (i.e. narcolepsy and chronic fatigue). When I began falling asleep and lagging behind in class, high school advisors suggested I be placed in remedial courses to suit my academic ability best. They were wrong because I had every intension of staying awake and alert. However, when I did have one of my “sleep attacks” I was unaware it was even happening. I’ve come a long way and I often wish I could bury my past, but I think it really says a lot about how I’ve overcome many difficult obstacles.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

1.) Journalism/Publication -
a. Staff Writer at high school; editor’s favorite staff writer
b. Internship w/ local online publication (writing human-interest pieces); CEO of the company wrote me a personal letter congratulating me on excellent work; article ended up on U.S. Representative website

2.) Instruments - Guitarist, ukuleleist, pianist, songwriter; participated in multiple recitals for classical music

3.) Work (Paid) - Owner of my own petsitting business. I created, designed the website, marketed, and advertised the business and have felt it is a smarter (and often happier! ) way to earn income than to do retail or something along those lines

4.) Science/Math - member of a local astronomy club; I learn how to navigate the skies and log constellations and astronomical events, in addition to participating in the Messier Marathon

5.) Foreign Language - Spanish Club; performed a play I had written with other members of the club. This play was all in Spanish and had a rhyme scheme

6.) Volunteer - I am a volunteer at large local charity and participate in multiple areas of it. i.e. - Drive elderly to appointments, deliver groceries, work at thrift store and tend to individual vegetable patch, so food donations include fresh veggies

7.) Church Activity - I also volunteer at this organization called the Strip Church, which involves us serving these women in the sex industry by going to strip clubs and giving them gifts and our time, so they know they are loved as human beings, not because of their occupation.

Haven’t taken SAT yet and according to Brown’s website, it is not required for transfers; however, it is “recommended.” Do think I even if have a chance at all even if I take the SAT?

What do you guys suggest that I work on?

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH! Seriously.
