@my2caligirls i have heard that. Thanks!!
The key to ECs for UC app is to have 3 - 5 good things for each category: clubs, community service, research, academic online courses, paid work, unpaid work, volunteer work etc with leadership roles.
Good Luck! I am sure you will do well.
@preppedparent wow…are you sure about that? most people i know are involved with 1-2 clubs OR 1-2 community service. maybe a summer internship. and most people i know have not taken any online courses and many don’t work (pretty affluent neighborhood)…this seems really excessive :o and thanl you!
For Common App, you want to have spike and 7 or so EC’s with depth and leadership roles. The UC app is different. Look at how many ways they define EC, and how many opportunities they give you to show what you do outside academics! Just my two cents based on my family’s experiences.#17
@preppedparent That’s true…thanks! Also, what’s spike?
Some important information that’s missing is class rank, race/ethnicity, and type of school and state where you’re from. Stats are undoubtedly excellent and qualify you for any school, but in many cases (for school like the Ivy’s) personality is heavily analyzed.
@AMCFito thanks for the response! i’m trying to make my personality really come out in my essays.
class rank: school doesn’t rank, only publishes deciles. all i know from the deciles is that i’m in the top 14%. i think i might be in top 10%, but there’s no way to tell.
race/ethnicity: south asian, female
school & state: public from CA so i’m in state for UCs
so the spike is some talent or some interest you do exceptionally well, to stand out in your identified field, like on a national level. Sports Olympian, Siemens finalist, Science Olympiad, published research, started a Not For Profit, etc.
