Do you think I would get offered CAP program?

I know my stats are not likely to get me into UT Austin right away, but I would definitely be willing to take the CAP program and go to UTSA for a year then transfer to UT.

Do you think I would get offered CAP? I am currently a junior.

In-state Public School
3.3 GPA
Class Rank - 200 out of 630
AP and Pre-Ap classes
4 years of Varsity Wrestling(I will be captain my senior year)
2 years of Football
2 years working at Chick Fil A
SAT- 1720
10 years in Boy Scouts
Eagle Scout
Basically all AP classes my senior year

I want to major in Biology or another science, still not decided yet. Do you think my chances are good of getting into Texas A&M as well?

Students in-state almost always get offered the CAP Program. IDK of anyone who was a Texas resident who didn’t get the CAP offer so you will have that opportunity. If you have any questions about CAP, UTSA, etc let me know because I’ve been there and done that ;)

Yeah, getting a CAP offer isn’t too tough.

FWIW, I think you have a good chance of being accepted outright at A&M. But I am sure you look much better in burnt orange.

you might get into UT, if your any good at wrestling try and get a scholarship to UT. You probably can get in A&M but people with better stats got waitlisted (and accepted off of it)

but yea just apply 2 a few schools

Almost every Texas applicant gets CAP’ed. Your chances at A&M are a slight reach, but you can still get in.

One problem–UT does not have a NCAA wrestling team, thus no scholarships for that sport.

OP–Every poster on this thread, save Pierrechn, has given you valid advice. Please just ignore his comments.

so why didnt you quote the line under that? the advice given was very valid

Not coming from you, as history has overwhelmingly demonstrated.

It is imperative to the integrity of this forum that new posters, such as Prime 145, be aware of your lack of knowledge regarding the inner workings of UT, given that you are neither an incoming, current, nor former UT student. Thus your opinions are just that–opinions–with no basis in fact.

I love the attitude hun.

I think it’s time to stop insulting pierrechn at every single instant. It seems like a collective effort to belittle him at every instant, even when his advice is on point and sometimes when he hasn’t even posted in a thread yet.

You (and I mean those who consistently make pierrechn references) may disagree with his advice, but correct the advice when it’s bad and not insult him whenever he posts.

Prime,

Have you thought about a service academy? You have better than average grades, a decent SAT score, you’ve been an Eagle Scout and have been a multi-sport varsity athlete for 4 years. Thats the kind of well roundedness that the service academies search for. Getting a degree from one of the academies is more prestigious than UT. Ofcourse if you’re not interested in making a 4-5 year commitment to being a military officer after you graduate, its probably not the best route. But I will say this about the service academies; they are a very tight knit group of people and career opportunities are very good for people after they get out of the military with a service academy degree. I had several guys in my MBA class who were West Point/Navy/Air Force guys who got top jobs after completing our master’s program. They also got their MBA’s paid for since they were Texas residents with military service.

Just something to think about. Apply soon if you would like to give it a shot.

With all due respect, you have not been a member of this forum long enough to have witnessed the vast amount of misinformation and lying that has occurred from said poster. There’s a reason why so many posters are fed up.

@tim739

I’ve only made a few posts, but from what I’ve seen I have to agree with Txex86. pierrechn doesn’t seem to write well thought out posts and tends to make things up. As a graduate of UT Austin with both a bachelors and a masters degree, I have to say that I doubt pierrechn has even gone to college, much less UT. When posters can’t add any value to serious questions posted by kids who want to get into college, the last thing the world needs is a “know it all” who knows nothing.

@tim739, I agree with BK and txex86. When quite a few experienced people keep correcting a poster, there’s usually a reason for it.

you can correct my post all you want without insulting me. And you people constantly say i “lie/mislead” / point out a thread where i have done this? ( support your claim )

I completely agree that pierrechn often makes incorrect comments and actually, I’ve observed the forum for a long time without ever having an actual account. I think it’s fine, in fact advisable to consistently correct him when he’s wrong. My point was that people seem to take pleasure in insulting him and trespass the line between correcting misinformation and simply insulting him.

I’ve actually seen threads where before he’s even posted, someone will say something to the effect of “Oh, pierrechn hasn’t posted yet” and then go on to imply/explicitly say something nasty, not even to warn the OP but just to make a joke out of him. It’s not the corrections that bother me, it’s just the fact that these corrections often descend into unnecessary insults.

@Tim739 I don’t think calling somebody a “liar” or “misleading” is wrong when its true. I haven’t been on this forum long enough to see people taking pleasure in insulting pierrechn, but I can’t say that he doesn’t bring it on himself.

@pierrechn in this very thread you mislead the OP by telling him that he should pursue an athletic scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin in a sport that doesn’t exist at UT. Whether you knew you were misleading him or not is not the point. The point is that you don’t know what you are talking about on every thread. When you offer random untrue advice about things that you know nothing about, you are actually misleading people that are looking for advice. Stay off the threads till you know what you are talking about.

tim739, it’s just that we’re getting tired of having to correct him constantly. We have repeatedly asked him not to post if he’s not sure of what he’s saying, and he continues to do it. We’ve tried asking nicely, and those requests fall on deaf ears. So if people get a little testy, it’s out of frustration.
