well it good your applying RD not EA cuz EA i think you would have been rejected. your stats are great yet there is no passion in your ECs, nothing of interest for the stanford admissions officers to latch onto. however, if you write fantastic essays I think you have a chance because you are qualified you just don't have that visible "it factor."

ahhhhhhhhh you guys are committing SUCH a statistics faux pas!!! just because their are 40 % CA residents in freshmen pop doesn't mean that stanford favors necessarily CA people. it could mean that the applicant pool is made up more of CA people.

i'm from kazakhstan. but yeah, the weighing system at my school is really bogus because they only weigh 3 honors classes a semester--even though every semester so far, i've taken 6 honors classes...so 3 of my honors classes haven't been weighted and thus affect my weighted gpa.... others at my school have taken advantage of this fact and have taken 3 easy honors classes each semester; they're now valedictorians.

i've been doing it for four years. our school doesn't compete, unfortunately, because there are no schools in the area that also have synchronized swimming teams. but i would definitely like to pursue it =)

While I can’t say much about how you’ll look to admissions, I can tell you about synchro at Stanford (if you’re hoping to pursue it there). Since its a hs program (not club), and you’ve only been doing it for a few years w/no competitive experience, you won’t get to swim for Stanford. They are in the top two programs in the country and I personally know a few girls on that team who are on the national team. The girls they take are top swimmers that are nationally ranked, but don’t feel too bad (I’ve been swimming since I was 10 and have competed on the national level but have absolutely no chance of swimming for them).

Even so, I DEFINITELY encourage you to pursue synchro for the rest of your life. It’s my passion, and I hope it can be yours too.

Good luck with Stanford. It looks like you have a pretty decent chance.
