So I was about 80% sure I would get into Phillips Exeter. But then I got my SSAT scores back, and I didn’t do as well as I would’ve liked. I got a 81 overall percentile. The average student in Phillips Exeter has a 90 overall percentile. My essays were very good (I got feedback from many people) and also my school grades are all in the A-A+ range. My talent is art- I’m in advanced art classes at my school and have participated in art contests. I’ve even placed 4th in Sculpture in a statewide art competition. (OVA- Olympics of the Visual Arts.) In the 6th grade my artwork also got picked to be hung up in the superintendents office. In 8th grade I also got picked out of the entire 8th grade (30 people were picked in total) to go to the RPI (College) Science Fair. I’m also very into poetry and photography and have a website- PM the OP for the site. ED that shows my talents. Another reason I’m really upset about my grade is that my twin brother, also applying for the same school as me, got his SSAT score as a 98 percentile. I’m also in a lot of clubs at my school- speech and Debate, Science Olympiad, Matheltics, WE quality (women equality), Latin Club, Spanish Club and Key Club. I’ve played piano for over 8 years, took tennis lessons for 2 years, and took dance lessons for 2 years. Currently all my classes are either AP or honors. (I’m in 9th grade. Anyway, I have my interview in two days. I’ve done practice interviews with my dad who said that I’m really good at getting interviewed because I have a fast reaction time to answering questions. So I’m wondering- do you think I’ll get in? Do you have advice on how to interview? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!
- Almost everyone, including you, is qualified for Exeter. I cannot say if you will or won’t get in or not. Fingers crossed though!
- Honestly…My Exeter interview was average. I got a pretty introverted interviewer (he even said so himself)(all respects to him though. He was quite comforting and I truly admire how he executed the interview). Though this may only apply to me…I found preparing before the interview a disadvantage because it fills your mind with pre-answered responses which really limits your thoughts during the interview. It’s good to hear you do well though (: Honestly, be yourself and stay calm. Bring a notebook with research (Interviews LOVE this) and don’t be afraid to hesitate when responding. Alumni and AO’s know you need to think. Remember your manners and respect the interviewer when they’re talking. Keep a smile and good eye contact and you’ll be good!
- IMO giving your website and everything was a bit too exposing but I did look through it lol. As an artist myself, Your work looks great.
- Your SSAT score is quite low. I don’t have any feedback since it’s really too late to retake the test. Just embrace your score and keep your head high. It’s truly a great score. Good Luck!
Thank you! If you don’t mind me asking, what was your SSAT score? And did you get in? Thanks for complimenting my art and thanks for the advice!
I agree! Your website was pretty cool and your resume looked strong. Are you currently in ninth grade? You should keep updating the website as much as possible since schools tend to look at them from now till m10. Also you should not worry too much about your ssat scores, I know ppl who have gotten accepted with less. Good luck!!
I am a current exonian btw
