I go to an extremely competitive high school in texas (ranked top 50 in the nation).

I have a 96.11 weighted and an 89.49 unweighted and I'm apparently in the bottom half.
I'm not sure how to convert these to a 4.0 scale but I'm assuming it's somewhere around a 3.5 unweighted and a 3.85 weighted..

Your school has a very serious case of grade inflation. Seriously, if over half your school has an A average (90+) that’s INSANE grade inflation.

yeah sorry, I meant inflation… And yeah, EVERYONE in my school tries, it’s kind of annoying haha. At most high schools, merely devoting effort places you in the top half… At my school, you have to not only do your homework, but be a genius to be in the top 10%. My 1830 on the SAT was 90th percentile in Texas, and 60th percentile at my HS haha…

I don’t think it’s merely a matter of high-caliber students.

I go to an extremely rigorous high school, where the media SAT is about 2000, but a 3.8 would still place you well into the top half. Seriously, your school has some insane grade inflation… to the point that the administration should be trying to implement some deflationary policies.

Yeah, no joke, i’m reading off the stats…

WEIGHTED GPA - 96.11349
RANK - 349/634

just fyi, top 10% cutoff is 103.5599 weighted.

It’s not any good for me either, since my dream school (UT austin) factors rank into their admissions so seriously At least they won’t see my rank, since our school only reports it if it’s in the top 10%, but they will still see how I did in relation to the other kids that applied from my school.

any other opinions before this thread dies?

That’s very serious grade inflation…the valedictorian at my public high school in Massachusetts had a 3.9 unweighted and to be in the top 10% you need to have 3.6 unweighted…has your school been like this for many years or has there been a sudden increase in GPA among students?

@skisoccer2014 Well I don’t have much knowledge of 3+ years ago, but ever since I’ve been here, it’s been slowly increasing. Last year’s graduating class had a top 10% cutoff of around 102.9, now ours is 103.56
