do you think sending part I app helps?

i know they say sending in the part I app (which has an oct. deadline, i think) bears no factor on admissions and is primarily for establishing an admission file early, but do you think admission officers use this to gauge how interested an applicant to their school may be? whether it is or isn't, i think all future applicants should send it in anyways b/c it can't hurt you & it is convenient to have a usc id # (which they mail you after you send in part I) when you are doing the regular app :). besides, the part I app asks about general stuff and takes about 5-10 minutes to fill out

well yeah it's good because they give you the stuff early but i really don't think it helps much...

maybe it does though. who knows. haha

It's no miracle-worker. At CC, we really do analyze things more than they should be.

I didn't turn in a part 1 app and I still got in.
I think it's just for the applicant's convenience. Perhaps USC uses the info for statistical purposes (seeing how many are interested, potential majors etc) but they don't give you bonus points because you turned in a part 1.

Oh! That's how you get an app ID number early! I was so frustrated that I didn't get mine until late January (mostly mailing issues - I got my confirmation letter really late, i.e. late January). Well, if I could redo the application process (which I wouldn't seeing as I got in!), I definitely would've submitted it.

hahah yeah sparetire i am probably being over-analytic...CC style ;)

Obviously it doesn't assure that you got in, but i think it is definately a good thing! I wish I had done it. Because it shows USC that you are really interested in them, which i've hear is becoming a bigger decision factor. I don't think that you should underestimate it.

littlelady212: where did you hear that showing interest in USC is becoming a big decision factor?

(good for me cause I've done a lot to show that I am very interested in them)

i didn't turn in part I, but still got in and i got a scholarship. i'm not saying my case is typical, but if they're saying it has no bearing on their decision, then i'm pretty sure it has no bearing on their decision. i'm think we are just being over-analytical here.

i didn't mean USC in general, but our school has been telling us that colleges are starting to analyze more how interested you are in coming there before they admit you because now more and more people are applying to a ridiculous number of schools that they are having trouble with the amount of kids they admit versus the amount of kids that enroll, but again that is just colleges in general not just USC

I think that its purpose is probablly

1) To determine how many applicants they will have and in which majors
2) The interest level of the applicants

they did tell us that the sooner your app (part II included) was received the better chances since they start reading after thanksgiving weekend
