Do you think that you are smarter than everyone else?

Even though you have no tangible basis for believing so?

I don't mean to be cocky, but ya sometimes I am smarter than others. But those people sometimes have better qualities than me such as in sports.

There's a somewhat tangible basis. I'm taking harder classes, a better GPA etc. Although just because u have a higher GPA or SAT doesn't mean much.

That's kind of hard to do once you've visited CC enough...

hahahahaah touch

I've never believed that grades or SAT scores define someone as smarter than others. The same for IQ tests. However, I am by far the hardest working kid in my HS class. As diamondbacker mentioned though, I'm probably average by CC standards :)

i believe that while I'm smart, there are a lot of people who are far more naturally intelligent (that's why I like CC-I get a reality check). However, I work incredibly hard and am determined, so it doesn't bother me that much.

i make a lot of narcissistic comments about me being smart but truth is i'm no smarter than a lot of kids in my prep school

No I know I am not smarter than everyone else but usaly when my friends ask me how i know something i say because i know everything

I make sure to distinguish between natural intelligence and diligence/hard work..
but I consider myself to be more intelligent than many people but plenty of people have me in the hard work category (something I'm trying to improve on).

naturally, but not hardworking at all (low gpa/high sat)

I have to admit, I have very, very little patience for people who spend inordinate amounts of time working at classes but can't manage to bring anything profound or interesting to the intellectual table. Can't help but feel as though they're disrupting the meritocracy somehow, especially when they get very good grades (and they often do).

I suppose I'm biased, though, since I fall somewhere on the opposite end of that spectrum.

i think im one of the smarter ones in real life. on CC im stupid. haha.

I feel like I'm smarter than a lot of people but that they'll ultimately have more success because I'm really, really lazy.

i think most people on cc are smarter than the "average" high school kid. i think im relatively smart, but not a genius or anything.

yes. not in the school sense, but i feel i have more life experience and knowledge of that sort.

It's impossible to say that you're smarter than everyone else. Somewhere in the world, there is another Einstein or Mozart or Bismarck waiting to make his mark.

Nevertheless, I have discovered that I am a better writer than some of the people around me (frankly, most people write like they want to sound impressive, not to be impressive), and that I intuitively remember vocabulary better than some people. But I wouldn't say that I'm smarter than them, just slightly more developed in those areas.

On the other hand, nothing bothers me so much as reading my friends' essays. I may come off as Dickensian with my extremely long sentences, but at least my writing lacks the myriad "due to the fact that"'s and other such pompous expressions that pepper my peers' papers.

(Whoa, accidental alliteration.)

The reason intelligent people often display such lazy tendencies is because we live in a society that doesn't reward briliance. Being successful in a high school environment, and to a large extent a testing environment, requires little more than memorization. Depth of understanding helps, of course, but I've seen plenty of people do just fine without it.

After a point, the intelligent person begins to feel marginalized, realizes what a sham it all is, and withdraws intellectually, focussing on what actually interests him or her, and potentially suffering a GPA dip as a consequence.

hahaahaaa pepper my peers' papers.

Haha Zamzam, we sound like kindred souls in the peer revision department. Refer your friends to Orwell's "Politics and the English Language" essay. They'll thank you later.

I am the smartest person in the history of man...

I don't think I'm smarter than EVERYONE, but I think I'm relatively bright :)
