I am taking 16 credits this semester with a part time job and I am doing great.
However next semester I am going to take 19 credits, and will try to continue my part time job.
Is this doable?
I am just scared that it will affect my studies if I have a part time job but I really need this job.

I am taking next semester:
CSC 101 + Lab (Intro Computer Science)
MTH 131 (Applied Calc)
BUS 201 (Financial Accounting)
ECN 202 (Macro-Economics)
FRN 102 (Beginning French Continued)
HDF 290 (Modern Leadership Issues)

That depends on the job, and how many hours you work. I work 10 hours a week as a tutor and am currently taking 19 hours and am having no problem, but it is very circumstantial.

I’m taking 19 hours right now and seriously struggling. Then again, two of my classes have a lab, and three have a twice a week “optional” (read mandatory) discussion section so I think it’s a YMMV type of situation.

YMMV? I might end up taking 16 units (the max load we can take) next semester with a part time job that makes me work 10 hours a week. Luckily my job is on campus so they’ll probably understand if I can’t make it to work because I’m studying or something.

Yes, I think it’s too much. At my college 18 credits per semester is the max allowed without special permission, and that includes students without jobs. I think your schoolwork may suffer or you may get burned out.

I think it’s too much if you are working over 12 hours a week. Part time can vary a lot… like you could be working 8 hours a week for all we know (in that case, it’s manageable) or you could be working 35 (in this case, probably not). And if this is an off campus job, definitely not. I know some on-campus job is very easygoing (like help desk) and they allow you to do homework while working. In this case, I would definitely take more credits if possible.

I took 18 credits w/ a PT job. I worked 25-40 hours a week and it was hectic. I ended up skipping some classes just to catch up on sleep/schoolwork. It’s doable, but not something I recommend at all unless you’re capable of running on 5 hours of sleep a night. This semester I am taking 16 credits and I average (so far in the semester) 30-36 hours a week and it has been manageable. The only thing is I don’t have free time to hang out with anyone or attend club meetings/do fun stuff/community service because I spend my only free time out of class doing homework. If your class workload isn’t hard (ie; you don’t really need to study and don’t need to do homework), then it is manageable.

Definitely YMMV and dependent on how ready you personally feel about the courseload you’re taking and the courseload at your school. At my old school, I easily handled 19hrs/week of coursework, 19hrs/week of tutoring-- but I couldn’t do that now. So it’s all dependent on you.
